Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to enhance the understanding about the lived experience of suffering for married women in Korea.

Methods: Parse¡¯s human becoming research method was used in this study. Parse¡¯s phenomenological-hermeneutic method was used to answer the following research question: What is the structure of the lived experience of suffering? Data were collected through dialogical engagement method with seven healthy married women. Data were gathered for five months from April to August, 2011.

Results: The core concepts found in the suffering experienced by healthy married women in Korea could be summarized as follows: Most of the women experienced a deprived childhood; after marriage, they experienced suffering due to indifference from their families, unjust treatment, mistrust, and isolation; nonetheless, they were trying their best to fulfill their roles.

Conclusion: This study indicated that the women who participated are ordinary people living ordinary lives, experiencing suffering and being pushed into the depths of despair. However, we learned that the suffering they experienced from their conflicts could also serve as a foundation for continuous personal growth.
